Overview
This is a necessity if you are close to the limit of the Prados towing capacity. Essentially, under load for a prolonged time (especially up a hill range for example), the transmission oil CAN get VERY HOT.
If the temperature increases above 120 degrees , the rubber seals begin to harden which in turn leads to fluid leaks and pressure losses. At higher temperatures the transmission begins to slip which aggravates the overheating even more. Eventually the clutches burn out and the transmission fails. Temperature regulation is crucial when operating under heavy loads or in hot climates.
In addition, overheated transmission fluid can lead to increased friction and drag within the transmission system, resulting in reduced fuel efficiency.
Transmission Cooler Kit
The Transmission cooler is essentially a secondary radiator – just to handle cooling of the transmission. It maintains its viscosity, ensuring smooth shifting and optimal transmission performance.
As the transmissions is right underneath the engine, it means the heat that radiates out from it will go straight to the engine. If you have a cooler hooked up to your transmission, it’ll add less heat to your engine overall, and less work for the main radiator.
