Overview
Decking out the back of the Prado was a difficult one. I occasionally require the rear seats for additional kids or when additional adults need the back seats.
This meant many of the rear fit out options were off the table.
This meant I needed a solution to at least allow quick access to the rear right seat.
Getting a kid in the back is not too difficult. Basically just left the seat, pull out the fridge on slide, then the child can weave around the seat and sit.
Flidge Slide & Draw
To start, I needed to bolt the slide down. I purchased some marine ply from Bunnings, drilled holes and attached the slide with bolts.
The hard part was fixing the marine ply to the LHS seat. I did this by using slim nuts in the rear of the seat channel. To hold the RHS, I got a eyebolt cable fabricated and attached to the rear seat bolt.
The XTM fridge slide is great value for money and doesn’t seem to ‘rattle’ like some of the cheaper slides / draws. It fits perfectly on the left hand side that allows the right rear seat to be raised.
What impressed me is how much I could fit into it. The air compressor and leads was a must, other recovery gear has a welcoming place.
Fridge
Yes, I did go cheap first, yes it shit itself within 2 years, yes I was told to go Engel to begin with. I have a mate who has had an Engel in the back of his ute and it’s just starting to pack in in after 20 years of rugged use.. I think their tagline is warranted. The MT−V45F 40L fits perfectly in the back, perfect to fit a carton and a bit in, and only draws around 2.9 amps max (3.1 amps max).
It is equipped with a battery monitor cutting the compressor in or out in order to protect the battery. When the "MODE" button is pressed twice, the LED display will be blinking the current battery monitor state "OFF" or "LO" or "HI" (default OFF).
After the last battery only lasting 26 months, I have kept the setting on HI to get the maximum life out of the battery.

I'm also considering one of these Kings 24 Ah Lithium Portable Power Pack. Between the Car and Camper trailer, this would proove to be a very hand investment for those times you decide to stay somewhere off the gird longer and cant get enough from solar..
At only $249, I think this is brilliant.
Adding the transit bag helps keep the drain on the battery down and also has a handy pocket.
Hot tip, this goes allright to for 9.5 liters of the good stuff
Cargo Barrier and shelf
I love the Kaon Gear, Australian designed and made, I’ve never had a drama with any of their gear. The barrier is named a ‘per barrier’ probably because its not load rated. It’s a very easy install where you simply use the headrest and ‘jesus’ handles bolts.
The issue was the height of the fridge and fridge slide/draw, was was about 20mm to high with the Kaon self.
I ended up cutting the brackets to raise the heigh of the shelf. With the fridge bag, the fit is perfectly snug.
Side Molle Pannels
As soon as I saw these, I knew I hads to have them. Although they protect the windows from acidental scratches to the tint, it's a bit of a shame they are not recessed to make more use of the substancial room behind them..
I decided to recolcate the power distribution and mount to the left hand side Molle, on the right, I mounted a quick access case and the first aid kit (that unclips as soon as you pull) for quick access
Rear Door Table
Simply brilliant for day trips, throw on the cooker and cook with a view. A quick install, only a few screws required. I definitely recommend the rear door cage as well to keep all the goodies ready for your next outing.
With such limited space, what I felt was a necessary mod , was to be able to hang the tongs, spatula and paper towel. These are the things you want to be able to access quickly when your main hand is holding a beer. I ended up going with the toolpro magnetic tool bar set.
As they are relatively heavy, it was going to take a bit to attach them.
Looking at the Kaon shelf, I took out the right side bolt, drilled a 8 mm hole in the magnetic bar (to allow the kaon bolt to run through ) then added some double sided tape.. Brilliant!
Rear Door Cage & Caddy
For quick, easy access to cooking items, the rear door cage and caddy are brilliant.
A quick drop of the table allows you to store all the basics to whip up a quick meal and serve on plates.
As always, very happy with Kaons gear.
It needs to be noted, the door caddy, requires 4 x holes to be drilled, and your jack’s extension arms to be relocated.. of which I put mine in a metal container in the draw slide.
