Rear View Camera
With the cargo barrier, the fridge in the back plus the occasional dogs head poking up, trying to see what’s behind me was getting pretty frustrating. I’d head of these cameras for years , but waited till you could get a 1080p ‘full screen’ version at a reasonable price.
The main benefit is 100% unobstructed view – and as the camera is mounted at the back of the car, you get a real sense of the distance of items behind..
The other benefit is you can simply ‘swipe’ you finger up / down to change your view. This is very cool when lining up items in reverse.
HUD (Heads Up Display)
This HUD blows away all others. It’s the closest thing you will find that compares to a factory high end car. Simply plug into your OBD port, run the cable, and mount the base with the 2 sided tape to your dash and that’s it!
The Hudway T100 pares with your smart phone to adjust all settings including tilt angle, brightness and speed calibration!
It has partnered up with ‘waze’ navigation app so you can voice activate the waze on your head unit, and the directions will appear on the HUD.. pretty cool.
I downloaded the app on the head unit in the hope that i could have it installed solely on the headunit. Turns out, whilst it can be installed, the H100 HUD does not show up on when scanning bluetooth.
It's no issues, you just need to have it installed on your phone.
OBD (Bluetooth)
If you’ve got an android head unit, this is a must. On-Board Diagnostic II, the second generation of on-board self-diagnostic equipment. This device plugs in to your 150 Prado’s OBD2 port and transmits data to an app via Bluetooth on your smart device. It’s brilliant for live diagnostics, settings and have a plethora of customisable apps with dashboards to customise what you want to display.
OBD Splitter
Be aware of OBD splitters. The vehicle can only communicate with one device at a time.
If your compartment is a spaghetti junction like mine, it’s best not to keep accessing it every time you want to switch between OBD and heads up.
This allows the Hudway and OBD2 scan tool to be plugged in (with an optional 3rd device) at the same time, with a simple switch individual powered switch for each device.
The benefit of thisd ois not only do you get to power only an individual device, but also can save power by simply powering off all if you are parked up for a while to save your battery.
Fitting all this under is a little tricky, but I managed to get the power switches easily accessible.
Wireless Charger
As I ride motorbikes, there was only one option for wireless charging. Quad Lock.
I went for the air vent mount as I’ve found having the AC blowing on the phone / keeping it cool, increases the battery life and speeds up the charge time.
